Improvised Explosive Device (IED)

In The Field

Overview

The IED simulator lets soldiers experience this deadly munition. The IED can be used as a landmine or a bomb in a car. The landmine simulator is a non-pyrotechnical device with a 360 degree lethality effect. When triggered, pressurized smoke powder is released and the simulator sends hit information to the PDD that simulate the effects of detonations.

Features

The core of the IED Basic Simulator is the appended Saab short-range radio transmitter module. Once detonated, the IED Module sends a message to surrounding players over short-range radio. Unlike optical based solutions, this gives a truly 360 degree coverage. All functionality is already implemented in the training equipment and the effect of the explosion is evaluated individually by all players based on their relative location, soldier/vehicle type and applicable protective measurements. The sound and visual effects are generated using COTS safe non-pyro devices from our partners.
